Is Network Marketing Just a Scam?

Question: Some friends continue to try to recruit me into network marketing deals that seem like some type of money game or pyramid. Other friends tell me they're illegal and I'll get into trouble. How do I know what's legal and legitimate?

Answer: To help you understand what network marketing is, I must first explain what it isn't. First, network marketing isn't a pyramid scheme. Pyramids are programs similar to chain letters where people just invest money based on the promise that other people will put in money that will filtrate back to them and somehow, they'll get rich. A pyramid is strictly a money game and has no basis in real commerce. Normally, there's no product involved at all, just money changing hands. Modern-day pyramids may have a product, but it's clearly there just to disguise the money game.

Network marketing is a legitimate business. First, it's based on providing people with real, legitimate products they need and want at a fair price. While some people do make a lot of money through network marketing, their financial benefit is always the result of their own dedicated efforts in building an organization that sells real products and services.

Pyramids are illegal and are based on taking advantage of people. For a person to actually make money in a pyramid scheme, someone else has to lose money. But in network marketing, each person can multiply his or her efforts, skills and talents by helping others be successful. Network marketing has proved itself as part of the new economy and a preferred way to do business here and around the world.

Network marketing isn't about taking advantage of your friends and relatives. Only a few years ago, network marketing meant retailing to, and sponsoring people from, your "warm list" of prospects. Although sharing the products or services and the opportunity with people you know is still the basic foundation of the business, today we see more people using sophisticated marketing techniques such as the Internet, conference calling and other long-distance sponsoring techniques to extend their network across the country.

Network marketing isn't a get-rich-quick scheme. Of course some people do make large amounts of money very quickly. Many would say those people are lucky. But success in networking isn't based on luck. (Unfortunately, money won't sprout wings and fly into your bank account no matter what someone has promised you.) Success in network marketing is based on following some very basic yet dynamic principles.

Now let's discuss what network marketing is. Network marketing is a serious business for serious people. It's a proven system where the design, creation and expense the corporate team has gone through becomes a road map for your own success. Just follow the simple, proven and duplicable system that the good companies provide.

The real key is this: Network marketing is all about leverage. You can leverage your time and increase the number of hours of work effort on which you can be paid by sponsoring other people and earning a small income on their efforts. J. Paul Getty, who created one of the world's greatest fortunes, said "I would rather make 1 percent on the efforts of 100 people than 100 percent on my own efforts." This very basic concept is the cornerstone of network marketing.

For example, most successful people building a network marketing business do so in an organized method. They work a few dedicated hours each week, with each hour of effort serving as a building block for their long-term business growth. Then they sponsor other people and teach those people how to sell the company product and sponsor others who duplicate the process.

By helping the people you personally sponsor to sponsor others, you duplicate yourself. As this process continues, you create compound growth that can lead to hundreds or even thousands of people coming into your business. You leverage your time by helping others be successful and earn an income from all their efforts.

With network marketing, there are no big capital requirements, no geographical limitations, no minimum quotas required and no special education or skills needed. Network marketing is a low-overhead, homebased business that can actually offer many of the tax advantages associated with owning your own business. Network marketing is a people-to-people business that can significantly expand your circle of friends. It's a business that enables you to travel and have fun as well as enjoy the lifestyle that extra income can provide.

How To Earn Dollars In The Philippines?

How to earn dollars in the Philippines? Millions of Filipinos have left our country to work abroad. They sacrifice the opportunities to live with their loved ones just to earn higher salaries and wages offered by foreign employers.

One reason is that our currency, the Philippine Peso, is quite low in value compared to foreign currencies, such as the US dollar, European euro, UAE dirham, Saudi riyal, British pound, etcetera. Another reason is that most Filipinos are more reliant on labor and employment instead of entrepreneurship. They always think that starting a business is only feasible when there is substantial amount of money to be used as starting capital. Accordingly, they go abroad to find that capital. What they probably don’t know is that we can earn dollars even without leaving our valued country and our beloved families.

The Window To The World

We know that the typical Overseas Filipino Worker (OFWs) earns foreign money abroad by working with foreign employers. Fortunately, we can work with foreign employers without leaving our native land. Thanks to the power of the Internet, the world becomes just one click away. The Internet is a window that lets people connect to anyone in the world anytime and anywhere. This edge gives us the opportunities to earn dollars online not only through foreign employment, but also through foreign business relations. In fact, there are already a number of innovative Filipinos who are making money online. They enjoy it while having enough time and physical presence to nurture their families or children.

Two Ways To Earn Money Online

There are two ways or categories of making money online. These are online employment and online business. Online employment is when you become an employee to a foreign employer, whom you give your employment online. There is an employer-employee relationship that exists between you and your superior abroad. Your employer compensates your labor through wages, which can be paid hourly, weekly, semi-monthly or monthly. On the other hand, online business is serving customers or clients, rather than employers abroad. Here, you are your own boss. You also decide your time and schedule of work unlike an online employee who may work at a specified time instructed by his or her employer.

Online Employment

Online employment offers opportunity for Filipinos to work at home while earning dollars. Online employees work with foreign employees like OFWs, but the difference is that they don’t need to go out of our country to provide employment for them. However, online jobs require knowledge in Internet, emails and the like. Most online jobs require skills, such as data entry, graphic designing, business processing, accounting, online marketing and content writing. They can be full time or part time depending on the requirements of the employer. You may visit Odesk.com to find online works that will suit you best. Remember that foreign companies are sensitive with deadlines. Hence, “Filipino time” should be transformed to “on time”.

Online Business

I prefer online business instead of online employment because it offers more flexibility in time and unlimited income opportunities. Furthermore, you can be your own boss. Having an online business involves dealing with customers or clients over the Internet. This also means you should have products or services to be offered to them. You should be innovative, creative, passionate and unique to succeed in online entrepreneurship. One of the most popular ways to earn money online is through blogging. Many Filipinos are already enjoying dollars through their blogs. You may visit Top Blogs Philippines to see the most successful Filipino blogs today in different interests and categories. You may also observe and analyze them and learn how they monetize their blog and make money online. To start as a blogger, you can choose the interest you are most passionate of or where your best expertise is.

A useful blog with lots of visitors and traffic can be monetized in many ways. You can earn dollars through advertising, affiliate marketing (earning commission by selling other products), selling your own products, offering your own services, accepting paid reviews, forming membership clubs and other systems you can implement to maximize revenue and profit from your blog. A blog, if developed properly, can give you authority and influence in media on the interest you’re blogging. Remember that fame can help you get a fortune. Just think of how the offline media (newspapers and TV networks) are making money. You don’t need to invest lots of cash to gain authority in online and social media. You just need to invest hard work, passion, expertise and your willingness to help people to gain followers.

Samsung Profit Slides Despite The S6 Edge Shortage

Such is the haphazard and cutthroat nature of the smartphone market that even the world’s leading vendors get it wrong sometimes when it comes to anticipating demand — and that can have a detrimental effect on revenues.

Samsung says it probably miss forecasts for the second quarter, with operating profit from April to June likely to slide 4% on an annual basis to 6.9 trillion won ($6.13 billion). Analysts had forecast earnings at 7.2 trillion won ($6.35 billion).
That will mark the second-consecutive quarterly profit decline for Samsung on an annual basis, at a time when the company is struggling to revitalize its product portfolio while Apple takes a bigger bite of the market on the high end and low-cost players like Xiaomi and India’s Micromax sell more phones on the lower end.

One of Samsung’s bigger recent problems has been supply issues with its S6 Edge smartphone. The S6 Edge is pricier than then the S6 and since previous Edge devices had not sold well, Samsung reasoned (somewhat understandably) that the regular S6 would outsell the Edge by 4 to 1, writes Edison Investment Research analyst Richard Windsor in a research note. “Unfortunately this was not the case.”

Demand was roughly 1 to 1, which left a shortage of S6 Edge devices and a supply glut on the regular S6.

“This is a common occurrence in the handset market where demand is notoriously difficult to predict,” says Windsor.

Hence, overall shipments of the S6 weren’t as strong as Samsung might have hoped.

Currency volatility in emerging economies probably also impacted sales, analysts have said.

“The good news is that margins have held up well,” Windsor says, adding that Samsung’s handset business will probably be able to improve on its first quarter results.  “Furthermore, with [the second quarter] out of the way, the comparisons become much easier as it was in Q3 2014 when the handset business collapsed. This means that Q2 2015 should be the last quarter where the headlines are overwhelmingly negative.”

That doesn’t mean an explosion of growth at Samsung’s all-important Device Solutions unit, but something more like single-digit earnings growth for the next couple of years, he adds.

Samsung must now focus on protecting margins at its once-flourishing mobile business while putting more investment back into its semiconductor division.

While Samsung didn’t break down its earnings projections by business unit, the company’s chips business has seen encouraging growth in the last few quarters, and that at least has made up for some of the declines in the handset business.Samsung’s full second-quarter results are out later this month.

NTC Approved Globe Takeover Of Bayantel

MANILA, Philippines – The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) finally gave Globe Telecom Incorporated the green light to take over Bayan Telecommunications Incorporated (Bayantel).

In a 19-page decision, the NTC approved the joint application filed by Globe and Bayantel for a debt to equity transaction, wherein Globe would take at least 54% controlling stake in Bayantel.

NTC commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba, deputy commissioner Carlo Jose Martinez, and deputy commissioner Delilah Deles signed the decision dated July 2.

In the ruling on the case docketed under NTC Case No. 2013-218, NTC cited the Supreme Court ruling in Montoya vs Ignacio “the law really requires the approval of the Public Service Commission in order that a franchise, or any privilege pertaining thereto, may be sold or leased without infringing the certificate to the grantee.”

The regulator gave assurances that it has adopted safeguards to foster and ensure a level playing field, including conditions attached to the approval of the frequency sharing arrangement between Globe and Bayantel.

“The Commission finds that the acquisition by Globe of controlling interest in Bayantel pursuant to the court-approved amended rehabilitation plan and master restructuring agreement neither poses any prejudice to the public interest and convenience nor will make the service fail to operate or function better,” it added.

NTC pointed out that it does not find any reason to defer the proceedings of the joint application in the absence of an injunction form the Court of Appeals.

Contested

The approval came exactly 21 months after the joint application was filed in October 2013.

Rival Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) opposed the planned takeover of Bayantel by Globe.

PLDT argued that there appeared to be no reasonable financial benefit for Globe to acquire Bayantel, which had a capital deficit or negative retained earnings of P15.87 billion ($352.05 million).

It added that NTC should also auction the radio frequency of Bayantel that has not been used for 14 years. It warned that Globe stands to acquire a grossly disproportionate amount of frequencies in relation to subscribers, as it currently accounts for 32% of the cellular market as against PLDT’s 68%.

The following also opposed the takeover: Smart Communications Incorporated; Digitel Mobile Philippines Incorporated; Cruz Telephone Company Incorporated; Philippine Association of Private Telephone Companies; Eastern Telecommunications Philippines Incorporated; Telecommunications Technologies Philippines Incorporated; and Next Mobile.

Globe argued, however, that the radio frequencies being disputed by PLDT are vital to the rehabilitation of Bayantel that was approved by a lower court in Pasig City in August 2013.

Bayantel has been under a court-assisted corporate rehabilitation since 2003 and got the approval of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 158 in Pasig City in August 2013 for its amended Rehabilitation Plan, wherein Globe would convert its debt holdings into equity.

The Pasig City RTC approved the master restructuring agreement (MRA), wherein Globe would acquire a 56.6% stake in Bayantel through the conversion of 69% of Bayantel’s total debt.

In return, the outstanding principal debt of Bayantel would be reduced by 69% to $131.3 million from $423.3 million.

Bayantel’s outstanding debt stood at $497 million when it was placed under corporate rehabilitation. It has reportedly settled a total of P8.19 billion ($181.69 million) since it filed for supervised rehabilitation proceedings. It also intends to pay its $325 million outstanding debt within 2023. – Rappler.com

Paypal Will Soon Buy Xoom Corporation

PayPal has announced that it will buy digital money transfer provider Xoom for $890m (€804m) as it muscles into a growing international remittance market and expand in countries like Mexico, India and China ahead of a spinoff from eBay.

The offer price of $25 per share in cash represents a premium of about 21pc to Xoom's Wednesday closing price of $20.70.

Xoom shares surged on the announcement and were trading around the offer price in extended trading.

"Our aim is to bring the companies together to make it a true consumer champion in remittances," PayPal President Dan Schulman said.

Xoom, which has 1.3 million customers and a presence in 37 countries, allows users to transfer money via desktop, mobile phones and tablets. The acquisition would allow Xoom to expand into new markets with less execution risk, Xoom CEO John Kunze said yesterday.

Xoom will operate as a separate service within PayPal after the completion of the deal.

PayPal faces increasing competition from rivals like Stripe and Square, which is popular with smaller businesses, and Apple's Apple Pay. Online commerce foe Amazon.com is also beginning to explore in-store payments.

The San Jose, California-based company said holders of about 18pc of Xoom's outstanding shares, including all executive officers and directors of Xoom and certain entities affiliated with Sequoia Capital, have agreed to vote for the deal. It intends to fund the transaction with cash on its balance sheet.

PayPal said the deal, expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2015, will slightly hurt its adjusted earnings per share for 2016. The company is slated to separate from eBay this month and list as an independent company.

How You Can Make Money Using The Internet

In my previous post, I discussed about the Ways To Make Money In the Internet, Internet Business,  Understanding The Internet Business and Best Business Model you can use for an online business. Today, I'll show you how you can profit in your online business even if you're a new internet user.

Actually, one way to profit in the online world is by using various internet business models which includes:

eCommerce is what drives the product (both digital and non-digital) and service markets on the Internet. If you have a product to sell, you can get a lot more traction by setting up a store on the Internet and taking orders via your website and delivering it to the customer who may be miles away.

This can be set up for you to sell products and services:

Business to business where your products and services are only relevant and for sale to other businesses

Business to consumer where your business sells products or services to the consumer at large who in this instance can be down the street or on the other side of the world,

Consumer to consumer via large auction sites where you advertise as a nonincorporated, non-business entity and start cleaning out your garage and listing things for sale to other consumers

Intermediary models: There are what is called Intermediary models which are affiliate programs where other vendors pay you a commission to sell their products and services.

Community-based models are where you are part of a large community of like-minded individuals and your business or niche is only focused on that particular group of people. It is pretty much closed to all those outside of the community and networking takes place within that group of people.

Local Chamber of Commerce or business networking groups fall into this category.

Content and information providers include writers, webmasters and everyone else providing answers to questions via websites, blogs and large community forums like Yahoo Answers, About.com and Wikipedia.

This is where you go to for answers to specific questions you may have on X, Y or Z. You can wind up a customer if your question is answered with the need to buy a product or service to solve your dilemma. More and more these types of websites are popping up and this kind of business is generating a great deal of money for the site owners.

What Is The Best Model For An Internet Business And Why?

Off all of the business models presented one of the most popular and considered the best business models is the information-based model. While we go over all four categories that sell well via the Internet, you will notice that one of best, fastest growing models involves the dissemination of information via audio, video and written mediums like eBooks.

The popular form is all digital with no physical products to store, ship or keep track of. The digital product has an infinite shelf life, can be downloaded at the convenience of the buyer and never needs service. It is universal and easy to set up and maintain. All you need is a website, an idea and the ability to produce or hire someone to produce the product for you.

Through affiliate marketing, creating the product is not even necessary; the only thing an affiliate needs is knowledge of internet marketing which is for sale and freely supplied all over the Internet.

The Ideal Format To Use and Why: Blogs

Blogs are the new website of choice on the Internet. It used to be, you would set up a static website. Static websites displays the same information for all users with no interaction or dynamic change happening on the page. The page is usually an .html or .txt page that remains the same until the entire site is updated. Static sites are considered Web 1.0 and are difficult to manage when sites get large and are equally difficult to keep up to date. They are, however, cache friendly and are quick and easy to put together. Most people have moved on to the dynamic, blog pages which can be updated all day long.

The index or sitemap for the site updates automatically as information is added to the site, and with some blog platforms like Wordpress and Blogger, notifies the search engines and many Web 2.0 sites that something has changed. Because of this, blog platforms have become the ideal and most popular format for website to be built on.

How To Understand The Internet

Information is what drives the web. More accurately, the search for information is what drives the web. When you start surfing the Internet, querying search engines and looking at various websites, you usually have a question.

Think about it. When you go to a search engine like Google and type in a search term, you are actually asking the Internet search engine a question. For instance, when you type in something like “How to get rid of acne” or “acne cure” or “get rid of acne”, you are actually asking the question: How do I get

rid of acne, right?

This is the usual application of search engine queries, and we do it all the time. The search engine results called SERPs answer that question by giving us a list of websites that have information relevant to answering your query.

When you think about it like that, you will quickly realize that the basic reason the Internet thrives and grows is to answer questions put to it by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.

In the answers to questions lies business, product sales, fortunes made and the opportunity to answer and supply information about a topic. It could be anything; however, the process remains the same. In order to start an Internet business, you must think this way and as a result, your idea will be the answer to a question put forth by many.

Most people go into business to make money. Having a clear picture of what product or service they are going to present to via the Internet is necessary in order to be successful. Having a business model plays a critical role in achieving that goal. The type of environment in which a firm operates as well as the type of changes that it faces also play important roles.

The Internet stands to establish new game strategies for businesses as it renders existing bricks-and-mortar strategies obsolete while creating opportunities for wealth creation via the web. In order for people to take advantage of all that the Internet entails involves conceiving and executing a good Internet business model.

Such a model must have not only the right components, but also the right linkages between them and its environment. It also must have the degree of resilience and flexibility to take advantage of change.

In this site, you will find all of these factors and options that will allow you to go from Internet business “newbie” to a level where you can conduct business effectively via the Internet.

Before going any further, you will need a brief introduction to the history and terminology of the Internet along with the key segments of the Internet industry.

The terms “Internet”, the “web” and the “World Wide Web”, are often used interchangeably, are not the same. The Internet is a vast system of computers that are connected by high-speed communications lines which can understand the IP/TCP protocols. The WWW is linked content that is accessible through the Internet, written in HTML and viewed through a browser. In addition to the WWW protocol (http), there are four applications that operate on the Internet which are e-mail (electronic mail), discussion lists/newsgroups, FTP (file transfer protocol), and remote login (telnet).

Companies in the Internet infrastructure are found in 1 of 11 market categories, or profit sites, grouped into three segments: users, suppliers and communications service providers.. Users are subdivided into content aggregators or information servers, e-commerce companies, brokers/agents, service providers and market-makers.

Suppliers can be divided into content creators, software suppliers, and hardware suppliers. Communications service providers are divided into backbone operators, ISPs/OSPs, and Last Mile providers. Now that you know all of this, don’t panic. You won’t need to know a lot more than what each of these terminologies refer to, not how they work or how you can get them to work for you.

You will be dealing primarily in the browser interaction and FTP categories. These sound hard, but if you can program your digital recorder, you’ll be able to work on the web easily. Even if you can’t program your recorder, with a little study, you’ll be able to get a website up and running pretty easily. Everything today has been streamlined with results being the priority and not programming acumen.

What is Internet Business

Nowadays, people are always griping about their jobs. They feel unappreciated, unsure about their job security and obsolete.

They never know when they might be laid off and/or replaced. There are oodles of workers who live in fear of getting booted out for simple reasons like coming back from
lunch late or having to stay home with a sick child.

This has led to more and more people looking to sure up their incomes in less conventional fashions. It has led many to start their own home business, and the Internet is their platform of choice.

In a world where corporate downsizing is now common, many feel that salvation lies in starting an Internet Business. Some say, just in case, and others feel that they’ve had enough of living on the whims of others including bosses, managers and supervisors who tell them when to go to lunch and when they can go home.

Surf the web sometime and you’ll see just how many individuals have started their own Internet business. Seriously, cyberspace is loaded with them. All it takes is an idea, and human beings are chocked full of really good ideas to common problems. There are websites where a housewife is making a great living selling custom knife set. She was basically a working mom who had to come home for her sick child. With no college degree, she decided to start her own at-home Internet business selling something she just happened to know a lot about custom cutlery.

She started this business with less than $100, and looked at it as a way to bring in extra money. After a year, it turned into something huge, and now her husband works with her and it’s their only source of income. You have to admit; that’s pretty darn sweet. And it all started with her passion for kitchen cutlery, and the knowledge she had picked up over time.

Many times people think that Internet businesses are some big conglomerate, but in actuality, the Internet is the great leveler. It allows stay-at-home moms and average people to be able to start with little to no money and work their way up to compete with the mega corporations. When you think about it, on the Net no one knows whether you’re a large company or some guy in his basement with an Internet connection.

In fact, it doesn’t matter. What does count is whether you can answer a person’s need and answer a question with a product that solves a problem. That’s it, and with that, the Internet has become a boon in a time of strife for all those who are willing to learn and grow.

You too can begin an Internet business if you really want it. A close friend of mine started her business by making custom children’s clothing. She uses her sewing talents and creativity to make an honest living. Now she just has to keep up with the various orders. The bottom line to all of this is that you can never get CANNED from your own business, and your success is completely dependent upon your ingenuity and your ability to create and market a product that people want.

Remember the guys who made a million dollars by cutting off the pant legs, tying a string around the tops and making crazy looking hats?

How about the Pet Rock that made a fortune or the She-Bang guy video that changed the life of an average citizen. You might have that one million dollar business idea that will support you for a lifetime.

This site shows you how to take your ideas and turn them into a viable business that will get you noticed in the marketplace. The rest is up to you.

24 Easy Ways To Make Money On The Internet

So it turns out that the internet is good for more than just porn and video games – you can make money off it too! Think of the internet as a giant country called Imaginationland. By playing your cards right, you can make some easy money online doing things you’re already doing. Here are some Pinoy's tips to start you off Earn Online:

1. Website Building

If the internet is a country, then websites are like real estates. I’m hoping by now you have a general understanding that real estates are valuable in the physical world – digital real estates work the same way. By building a website, you’re creating your own plot of online “land.”

You can fill this land with whatever you want, but you have to promote it through social media (and anywhere else you can think of) for this to be successful. When you build traffic to your land, you can sell people whatever you have to offer. In order to build a website, you need a host (i.eGoDaddy), a template (i.e WordPress), and content.

The first two parts are easy to find, and content is only as difficult as you make it. You can post blogs, items for sale, pictures, videos, or whatever you want. Opening up your own website gives you the potential to make money from the avenues I’m going to mention.

2. B2B Marketing

An online business model I love is utilized by GetVoiP, an affiliate marketer based in New York. GetVoiP acts as an agent for business communication providers. They maintain updated listings of VoiP providers, including ratings, comparisons, consumer reviews, in-depth knowledge of market and end-user trends, and expert opinions from business professionals on a variety of topics related to business consumers. By not only keeping abreast of news, but providing detailed analysis of products being offered, GetVoiP is able to generate traffic to their site and increase their clout with businesses.

The more online clout you have as a business, the more money you’ll make. If you’re known for making lasting connections (as is the case with GetVoiP above), then you’ll have no issues building your online brand. You’ll be recognized in your community and begin to build a buzz in your industry. Tracking your numbers (how many people view your site, click each ad, and make a purchase from that click) gives you the leverage to expand this part of your business, enabling you to continue building your online rep.

3. Google Adsense

If that sounds like too much technical information for you, there is an easy button – Google’s advertising platform is as simple as signing up, enabling (on Blogger) or pasting a small code on your website, and allowing the advertisements to automatically roll in.

4. Amazon Associates

Amazon has an Associates program for site owners and bloggers. They offer a search tool to find the right products and services from their site and a variety of ad styles to display on your site.

Each item purchased through your Amazon links give you a commission. It doesn’t take high volume traffic to achieve results, either.

5. Rakuten Linkshare

Amazon and Google are far from your only options for online advertising. Rakuten Linkshare is a great place to search for other affiliates for your ads. Through their program, you can get customized ad links, email links, and banner ads for Starbucks, Walmart, iTunes, and a slew of other popular brands. With this program, you can also find smaller companies, regional or specialized brands, and more. I run a combination of Google, Amazon, and Rakuten’s programs, and my monthly income is approximately $150 from these programs. It’s not a lot of money, but it’s also not a lot of work for residual (it means recurring…since the ads are permanent…) income.

6. Company Referral Programs

Speaking of the benefits of permanent ads, banners and links aren’t the only ways to earn a little bit of dough off your online endeavors. By having a website, you gain the power of emailing companies to ask them for things. I have no shame in letting the yoga company whose mat I’m looking into purchasing know that I have a blog and write for yoga publications – it sometimes gets me discounts. Other times, I gain a valuable business contact in PR, advertising, or other aspects of corporate sales. Sometimes I just get a free drink. Either way, money in and of itself is worthless. Ditch the middle man and use the internet to barter what you have and can do for what you need.

7. Klout

If you have a social media account, try out Klout. The company tracks your social media usage, determines how big and what type of audience you draw based on the subject matter of your updates and posts. Using this information, you’re qualified to receive free items, tickets, etc. Check their website often to find ways of earning free stuff by doing what you’re already doing online…boring the rest of us…

8. EBay

If you have anything you want to sell, then EBay is the place you need to seriously consider doing it first. Personally I’m not a fan of the site because of the work it takes to build up a reputation. If you’re willing to grind through that process, you’ll be rewarded with many privileges – people have gotten rich selling books about how they got rich selling everything on EBay.

9. Amazon

If you start getting too big for EBay or decide you want to try a different flavor, Amazon has a marketplace as well. I prefer using Amazon because I can depend on their shipping, have a Prime account, and trust their reviews (overall, not usually singularly, although occasionally that as well).

10. Etsy

If you’re crafty (and I mean that in more than one way, wink wink), you’ll enjoy Etsy. Handcrafted items are the bread and butter here. Plenty of people make decent side money on the site, which is basically an EBay for crafters and artists. Set up a sellers account with Etsy, and you’ll be asked to set up your virtual storefront and put up at least 5 goods for sale.

Once you have this down, you’ll be a budding Etsy entrepreneur. Provide great quality to your customers, and they’ll often return. Many people are willing to pay a premium for quality handmade designs. Etsy (like EBay and Amazon) takes a cut off the top for selling items through their site. PayPal takes another cut, and you have to be careful with taxes on all income, so be diligent while building your online business.

11. Craigslist

Craigslist is the modern equivalent of the classified ads that dominated the days of newspapers. These quick ads are easy to navigate and use, and they’re geographically linked.

Posting ads on Craigslist is technically easy, but people often have fears about posting their personal information on the site. I communicate mostly through email when doing business on Craigslist, and

I’ve never run into any issues. I’ve never been ripped off, nor have I been murdered or raped for using the site. It takes common sense, so use your best judgment, but don’t assume someone is a thief just because of their preferred communication method. For an extra bonus, google “funny Craigslist ads” to see some delightful examples of guerilla and grassroots marketing.

12. Indeed

Maybe what you need is a job. It doesn’t matter which job search site you prefer using (even Craigslist) – Indeed tracks them all, and then some. You can find jobs posted on company websites, through temp agencies, and more at Indeed. If money is something you really need, Indeed is most definitely the place you want to visit to browse career opportunities.

15. LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a social media site for professionals. This isn’t a direct way to make money, but it’s a great way to connect to your current and potential peers, customers, clients, vendors, and more here. You’ll build a reputation and get in the loop on important developments in your chosen career path and/or industry. One day an old college buddy may hit you up for a dream job you never considered at the exact moment you are looking for a new vocation. Whether you like it or not, keeping your LinkedIn profile current is a great way to get surprised with new work opportunities out the blue.

16. Care.com

If you’re an experienced nanny or babysitter, Care.com is the place you want to make money. By listing yourself on the Craigslist of Childcare, you’ll broaden your reach and increase your odds of finding the right gig at the right time. You can be pickier with what kids you watch when you have the reputation and traffic to pull in more customers. Join Care.com and start making money by investing in the future of our youth.

17. ThePirateBay

I support bootlegging – I don’t see it as being immoral or unethical in any way. I used to bootleg quite a bit in my youth, and I still do on occasion today (although not yet today in particular, I more meant “in the present”). If you want to hustle for your money, do what you must, baby. Download some software, music, movies, or other assorted digital goodness here and start slangin. It’s not an easy life, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

18. iTunes

If you’re a musician, writer, artist, tech nerd, pundit, or can produce any type of audio, video, or text worth consuming, you may be able to sell some stuff in Apple’s flagship iTunes store. By selling your work here, you’re able to stand next to the marketing clout of big business. You can make a healthy living off the iTunes store, and there’s no better time than now.

19. Yelp!

If you have a business, you want to get listed on Yelp! You may not use the software, but some people do, and they use it religiously (and I don’t mean they’ll kill you over it). By listing your business on Yelp!, you’re putting yourself on the map. From here, you also need to start using Yelp! Write reviews of places you go. It’ll be worth it in the long run.

Soon, you’ll have a dozen or so reviews under your belt and can hire yourself out as a Yelp! reviewer. There are ethical and moral questions to doing this, but the title of this piece is “ways to make money,” not “ethical ways to make money,” and I am a former Bank of America/Countrywide employee, so what’d you expect?

20. Wikipedia

Another seemingly free site you can make money from is Wikipedia. People who say it’s easy to edit Wikipedia have clearly never tried editing Wikipedia – it’s a pain. Thankfully it’s a pain for companies as well, so many of them are willing to pay editors to assist them in the editing process. You’ll become a bounty hunter in a way, choosing your own lines to cross and keep. If editing is something you like to do, and you’re willing to put in the work it takes to learn Wikipedia’s dispute process, roll up your sleeves and try this one out.

21. Blogging

I make the bulk of my money from blogging. In addition to the advertising revenue streams mentioned above, I also receive flat rate payments for blogging from various blogs throughout the web. I’m paid to write as a whistleblower, financial analyst, reviewer, commentator, and more. Writing for other sites builds traffic to my personal blog. The traffic for this blog gives me clout to present to advertisers.

To create your own blog, you don’t even need a web domain. You can start a completely free blog on either WordPress or Blogger. Each of these sites has its ups and downs, but you can’t beat the price. You generally want to keep blog posts between 150-500 words until you have a few dozen under your belt. Links between your blog posts encourage people to stay on your blog once they find it, increasing traffic. Once your blog is up, promote it on social media for the greatest effect.

22. Kickstarter

If you have a passion project, Kickstarter may be exactly what you need to get it off the ground. Celebs like Zach Braff and Melissa Joan Hart have used this site in attempts to fund their movie projects. Some crack dealers in Canada inspired a “crackstarter” campaign from Gawker for pictures of the Toronto mayor smoking crack with them. All you need is a dream, a goal, a budget, and a great pitch to convince people to come to the site and donate to your Kickstarter campaign. Panhandling isn’t dead – it’s gone digital…

23. Extreme Couponing

Once you’re versed on the idea, what you have to do is a bit difficult at first, but it’s a great way to both save and make money: go to hip2save.com and get a feel for the types of deals that are out there (both online and in the physical world). Once you’re comfortable with the process, start searching for the best deals in grocery, retail, and online shopping. After a month or two of extreme couponing, you’ll have enough cleaning, hygiene, and food supplies stocked up to save a noticeable amount of money. Now maybe you don’t need to make as much…?

24. Social Media

No matter what you do to make money online, promote it on your social media accounts. You have a base of people who are already interested in you and have a vested interest in your brand – why would you not want to take advantage of that? By promoting yourself and your projects on your social media accounts, you’re greatly increasing the chances of people actually giving you money in exchange for your goods and services. Stop being shy and get out there.

Google Build "Campuses" Where Entrepreneurs Can Flourish

Google started in a small, Menlo Park garage 17 years ago. Now, in a nod to its humble beginnings, it is building "campuses" around the world intended as fertile ground where entrepreneurs can flourish.

A campus that opened last month in Madrid was the fourth such start-up nurturing facility opened by a Google for Entrepreneurs team at the California-based Internet titan.
The first campus opened in London in 2012, followed by one in Tel Aviv and then a third in Seoul.

"We began as a startup in a garage 17 years ago and really believe in empowering the next generation of startups," Google for Entrepreneurs director Mary Grove told AFP.

"The goal is to foster entrepreneurship all over the world."
Google plans to open startup campuses in Warsaw and Sao Paulo later this year.

'Hive of activity'

Campuses provide spaces for startups to meet, work, and learn. Partners are brought in to provide cafe services for which Silicon Valley tech companies are renowned.

Each campus has large event spaces that groups can apply to use free of charge. The London campus averages four big events daily.

Co-working desk spaces can be rented, with certain operations contracted out to partners such as TechHub, which provides work space for tech entrepreneurs, and Seedcamp investment fund.

The campuses have about 20,000 square feet of space and 200 desks.

Membership is free, and some 55,000 people around the world have signed on, according to Grove.

She said the process of users going from being a new arrival to learning from mentors, meeting potential investors, and gaining traction is referred to as "working their way through the building."

"It's a hive of activity and has a tremendous energy about it," said Frugl founder Suzanne Noble.

"I've lost count of the interesting workshops and talks that I've attended there and have really helped to grow my business."
Her company is behind an app that helps people on budgets find affordable things to do and she is taking part in a freshly-launched London Campus program devoted to tech company founders over the age of 50.

In contrast to typical startup accelerator programs, being at campus is more about sharing skills and maximizing use of resources made available, according to Noble.

Wiki-kids co-founder Inbal Miron-Bershteyn attended a baby-friendly startup program for entrepreneurial mothers at the Tel Aviv Campus.

There are mattresses on the floor for nap time and children are free to crawl around while their mothers talk to mentors, experts and women who have started companies of their own, according to Miron-Bershteyn.

Diaper changing and breast feeding are accepted parts of the routine.

"Even sometimes a crying baby will be held by a mentor," Miron-Bershteyn said while describing her Campus for Moms experience.

"It is a great community, everybody comes together. It works, I think, on good karma. Mentors come for nothing and the women get encouraged and empowered."

Wiki-kids is a talking encyclopedia tailored for children, launched just a couple of months before Miron-Bershteyn took part in Campus for Moms last year.

Google DNA

Google does not earn any revenue from its campuses, and did not disclose how much it spends on the facilities or the programs.

"It is such a part of Google's DNA," Grove said of promoting tech entrepreneurs.

"We have the tools to make startups successful, we know that more companies online using the Internet and Google products is good for Google in the long run."

Startups out of the London campus have created about 1,800 jobs in the past three years and raised $110 million in funding, according to Grove.

Along with startups flourishing on campuses, she hoped that the facilities themselves would be seeds for the growth of tech company clusters in neighborhoods where they are located.

"It is not about recreating Silicon Valley, it is about finding what is unique about cities and capitalizing on it," Grove said.
